At the beginning of 2021, I decided I wanted to prioritize creating a piece of dance on film. 99.99% of my choreographic work has been for on-stage musicals, and the pandemic has made all of us choreographers realize just how important it is to also be able to work in other mediums.

While I had quite a few ideas for a first project, “The Boy From Ipanema” seemed the most interesting and accessible to me at this moment in time. I also liked the idea of making something that would feature me as the dancer, embodying my own choreography.

Since I was working in a new medium, this was a scary project for me, and I definitely procrastinated a bit during the process. However, with the help of both Collectus, and Tim Fuchs Productions, I was able to make a really sweet film, and I’m totally proud of how it turned out.

Please give it a watch, and if you’re so inclined, I’d love for you to like, comment, and share the video through IGTV too!
